A flock of chickens roam around the farm daily. A cage? Never ever even seen one. The way it should be! The word organic can’t even come close to these chickens and their eggs as hens, roosters and sometimes even a hatch of chicks cover at least the approximate 20 acre radius around their coop. Sometimes you’ll even find a nest of eggs in a specially picked out location, be it in the hay we feed the cows, the 5 gallon bucket of dirt I left to plant a special type of veggie, or on the ledge amongst the tools. You name it, I found eggs there. Off course I’ll take every last one of them and that will generally make whichever hen it may be, back to laying in the coop and nest boxes where all the other ladies lay. But right now there’s a missing hen. I betcha, in about 3 weeks, she’ll emerge with at least 9 or more hatched chicks by her side. Oh what a joy as the next generation take up the load of laying eggs.
