With every litter we keep a puppy back to train as a started dog. And or if a puppy does not sell in time we start training until it sells as we don’t want any dogs around that’s getting older without training. The more time spent in training the more valuable the pup would be thereby increasing the sales price.
Training includes: Leash, sit, stand, stay, heel, crate training. Training might also include the dog learning not to go after chickens or poultry as we expect most ranches to have have poultry roaming around. Depending on what temperament and signs for interest in any livestock they exhibit, these pups might also be exposed to herding cattle or sheep as our times allows. Every pup will be different. As long as they can learn to hold off until commanded to go and or return form herding on command by being called off of the livestock, we feel we have accomplished a great deal as a start. Other important training would include circling from the front and or going to fetch an animal or herd of livestock. This here has a lot of to do with the type of herding genes passed down and what the trainer can determine can be drawn out in the pup.
Tuffey is a male dog at studd and part of Crossbow Dams and Sires but he is also available for sale.
Command and Training: Sit, Stay, Heel, Come, Get in the pin. He is also crate trained. Tuffey has been trained to leave all poultry alone and will not go after them. He has been exposed to work with his parents and other experienced dogs on herding/working cattle.
Temperament: He is one of the sweetest pups I’ve ever had, comes on command, and sits on command and is crate trained. Very active but ooohhh so loves to be with you and will make an amazing companion dog.
An all around great ranch dog in the making to help make American Ranches Great Again!
